A special meeting of the Student Government Organizations was called on
Friday, the ninth, in an attempt to organize a relief effort for the on
campus evacuees of Hurricane Katrina. At the meeting, a Relief
Effort Committee was formed to take over the task of providing for those
displaced students that were late enrolling at LSU Alexandria. The
committee consists of:
Chair -
Immediate Past President Monk
Vice Chair - Brandi Rabalais
Vice President McDonald
Senator Double and Desmond Harris
At that same meeting, the Student Government
appropriated funds from the Student Relief Fund to purchase $350 worth
of LSUA t-shirts and $1600 worth of meal plans for these displaced
students.
Furthermore, upon a suggestion by Brandi Rabalais that
school supplies be made available for the displaced students, the Relief
Effort Committee has begun collecting, sorting, and handing out bags of
school supplies to each displaced student. These bags contain (4)
1 subject notebooks, (4) folders, (4) pencils, and (3) pens, or
equivalent supplies.
The latest news from the Relief Committee is that they
will be holding a luncheon for the displaced students sometime next
week. The luncheon, which will be held in the Bayou Robert Room
and catered by ABL, is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday the 14th and
will consist of all displaced students and all members of the Student
Government. The luncheon is an opportunity for all displaced
students to formally be welcomed into our university and to give them a
chance to meet their fellow SGA members.
